Hopes, dreams and peppermint creams
I like peppermint creams. I was walking in the woods this morning and peppermint creams came to mind. So powerful was the vision of them that I could actually taste the mint. Of course I took a detour on the way home to go to the sweetshop. It was a proper sweetshop with barley twists and rhubarb and custards in jars and boxes of the creams you find wrapped in gold paper so that even the unwrapping of them feels like Christmas.
So, what has this got to do with getting a new job you ask? At the moment because the job market has changed from a more visible to a hidden job market which requires initiative and self motivation to research and navigate. Keeping your spirits up can become a right pain, both to yourself and others and after a while your frustration turns into whinging and people stop listening. It’s like being a kid again with only homework to do and no sweets till you have finished.
It’s important to remember that you need to build in time for fun and socialising when looking for a new job. Networking is certainly one way of doing this but treats to the cinema or just a shared evening with your friends is vitally important.
Make sure you limit the time listening to the voice in your head – you know the cynical one which is probably telling you that you are washed up, acknowledge that it’s there and then go and do something else.
By keeping refreshed and revitalised you can allow new thoughts to arise which will give you an inner direction on inventive approaches to try out. Give one new idea a whirl, don’t judge it just go with it and see what happens.
I have mentioned before that when I took up an art class, other doors started to open because I had placed myself back in that space of ‘Being’ not ‘Doing’. This is the positive side of being like a child, kicking the autumn leaves, jumping in puddles, and eating peppermint creams elevates your joy in that moment and gives you relief from a task which may currently be consuming.
Go get your sweets!!
